ships may be sailing and stories be told
she may be desperate, she may be bold,
she may be drowning her pillow at dawn,
tears are unwelcome, so she carries on

Sarah's aware of last time they've talked,

story's expired five minutes ago.
last time they talked she felt distant. although
tried to be useful and tried to support –
hoped he'll appreciate, always alert

sometimes he needs her and that's when he writes
needing expires when Sarah excites
she's left remembering faces and frowns,
eyebrows he's raised while she conquered the towns

conquering turned to some pointless defeat,
trying to prove she is worth him. repeat.
master of useless achievements and stunts,
Sarah was blinded and seemed to be blunt

once she'll stop counting his time to respond,
drowning and burning that one-sided bond,
learning to turn off her smartphone by night –
maybe she'll even start feeling alright.
